LINDA FRUEH

Artist Biography

Linda is a contemporary fine artist transplanted from New York to San Diego. She works primarily in encaustic – a mixture of beeswax, pigment and resin that has ancient roots. She creates works with rich surface textures and subtle palettes by applying and reworking layers of molten encaustic on wood panels. Her artwork is serene, luminous, and inviting to the touch.

Linda earned a physics degree from MIT before studying art at the California College of the Arts. Her scientific roots inform her work – exploring how to capture the essence of natural materials and moods in abstracted manner. She has been influenced by the work of abstract expressionists Robert Motherwell and Mark Rothko and pastel artist Wolf Kahn.

Ms. Frueh was recently awarded a 2016 Emerging Artist Grant from the International Encaustic Artists, was selected for the Award of Excellence by Conceptions Contemporary Arts, and has been selected as one of 50 Contemporary Artists to Watch in the San Diego area.
