Daniel Ketelhut

Artist Biography

Born in Freeport, Illinois in 1966, Daniel Ketelhut is an emerging painter who currently resides
in Southern California. Daniel graduated in 1990 from San Diego State University with a BA in
Art, emphasis in studio art, and was recognized with distinction in his major. The otherworldly
subject matter of Daniel's imaginative, colorful paintings is largely self-generated and speaks to
unconscious longings and motivations. In addition to his formal education, Daniel is self-taught,
which he considers to be just as important.
Additionally, he has participated in the Art Pulse Mentor Program, in which he was
counseled by local luminaries of the art world, including McLean Emenegger and Peter Frank.
Daniel's work has been seen in several solo exhibitions as well as numerous group shows both
locally and nationally. His work is included in both national and international private collections.

Artist Statement

My art explores the realization that the world we find ourselves in – the world which seems familiar
to us, with its shared opinions, customs, and traditions – is, at bottom, unfamiliar and foreign.
We all have the persistent idea, nagging and tugging at the back of our minds that there is more to
this than meets the eye – other perspectives just out of reach. The resulting desire to at least
temporarily throw off the limitations of the everyday has afforded artists and visionaries throughout
the ages with a field of exploration like no other.I am both proud and humbled to be part of this
tradition.
