Amanda Saint Claire

Artist Statement

I am a process painter.  With each piece I am engaged in a search to find the sublime.  It is a felt sense that you come to trust.  I'm interested in the dynamic tension that arises in textures and colors and spatial relationships. Spontaneity is my friend.  Sometimes I'm drawn to the absurd.  Sometimes beauty, but the subjective nature of beauty is limiting.
I have been told that I have a gift as a natural storyteller and my meditative and therapeutic practices have developed my listening abilities.  As an artist we are often told to look, but when we engage all the senses we are able to truly connect with our world in much deeper way.  I am deeply influenced by the artist Richard Diebenkorn and his 10 Notes to Myself on Beginning a Painting.
